ECC’s Inaugural Online Judging
The Printer of the Year Competition was unusual this year in that it became a projected image competition!
Social distancing and safe working practices prevented it being judged in the normal way. Rather than ‘lose’ the competition it was decided to change the format. Sue Dobson, our judge for the evening, kindly accepted the challenge to judge from her home whilst our members looked on. It was to be Sue’s first online judging as well!
Ahead of the competition Sue was sent a ‘Judges Preview’ from PhotoEntry. That enabled her to review the images at home and to make any notes if she wished ahead of the night. Sue did comment that it was a particularly useful thing to have.
On the night, once we had all logged in and settled, Sue had 42 images to assess and mark. As ever, Sue delivered helpful comments stating which aspects of images she liked and how, in her opinion, they may have benefitted from changes in composition or technique.
Five authors scored a maximum of 20 points. They were:
Vic Cox for ‘All Too Much’
Marion Rapier for ‘Leather Jacket’
Andrew Ridley for ‘Bar Code’
Tony Scialo for ‘Lonely Tree with Snowdon in the Background’, and
Mike Steward for ‘Even in the middle of the Gobi Desert’.
At the end of the evening Marion Rapier was declared the winner, with a combined score of 57 from her three images. Sue Webster was second with 55 and Tony Scialo third with 54.

Well done to Marion, Sue and Tony. Thank you for M&M and Nick for arranging it.
