Loughton Anniversary Trophy Battle

Edmonton finished in a highly creditable fourth place at the 2023 Loughton Anniversary Battle. It was a very close fought contest which, in the end, saw Loughton and Upminster tying for the top spot.

Entries for this inter-club battle always comprise three black and white prints, three colour prints and six PDIs. On this occasion the judge was Andy Smith LRPS CPAGB, who had travelled up from Kent for the event. He gave a very sound critique of all the work on view, much of which was of a very high standard. This added to the closeness of the competition, which was reflected in the final scores.

Edmonton was represented with work from Andrew, Clive, Dave, Mahandra, Malcolm, Marilyn, Marion, Steve, and Tony. Clive’s image entitled ‘Hands’, scoring 19 points, was Edmonton’s highest scoring PDI. Marion’s print entitled ‘Striding Out in the Rain’ scored a maximum 20 points in the colour prints section.

The final scores from the six competing clubs were as follows:
Loughton 219
Upminster 219
H2 217
Edmonton 215
Walthamstow 207
Enfield 204

The evening concluded with the now legendary ‘Grand Raffle’, with the top prize being a Leica instant camera worth £350. That, unfortunately, was not won by an Edmonton representative.

    Hello all,
It was an honour to have been one those selected by our club to represent it, over so many capable photographers at Edmonton – to do battle at the Loughton anniversary trophy battle. I was pleased that my entry that perhaps i didn’t have the highest regard for (which has been my view of some of my work not only of work I’ve produced at Edmonton but also elsewhere, seen by older and wiser heads to be meritorious) and help Edmonton gain the finish that it did.
I can thoroughly recommend attendance at the Loughton anniversary battle where a range of genres was on show and judged at the highest level, but not least for there hospitality in providing complimentary refreshments- they do a marvellous prawn sandwich!
