Outing to Theobalds Farmhouse Garden

A beautiful sunny afternoon for the club outing to Theobalds Farmhouse Garden. We really enjoyed Alison Green’s tour and then the opportunity to wander around taking photographs in the diverse settings in the 2 acre site, including formal gardens, woodland and pond and water gardens. Followed by tea/coffee and cake. A great afternoon.

We had a perfect afternoon for our trip and the setting was glorious. From the time we arrived and parked, in front of the old farmhouse, to be met by Alison until our reluctant departure we had wonders to enjoy.
The property covers 2 acres, part of a larger estate, which included the farmhouse with the 2acres. Alison had trained as a garden designer and after she and her husband bought the property in1999 she set out to turn the grass covered expanse which boasted just one stand of old oaks to the present glowing garden which sits in the landscape as if it had always been there. It is an adventure land with sweeps of grass, “rooms”with paths running between each space, flowers beds that flow between and a very natural pond. The colours evolved seemingly naturally and all around the scents, oh those scents. The gardens are a haven for birds wildlife and us as well.
To finish the afternoon Alison offered us tea and coffee together with slices of her own home made cakes. Delicious.
