Tony Triumphs Again

We were delighted that Chris Palmer FRPS EFIAP DPAGB APAGB was able to join us last Monday evening to judge the 2024 Printer of the Year Competition. Chris is renowned for the quality of his prints and is an Ambassador for Photospeed. He is currently the Chair of the RPS Visual Arts Assessment Panel and was previously engaged as a specialist advisor on print quality for the RPS. We knew that we could have no finer judge for the evening.

Members each submit their favourite three images, used previously during the year. Entrants also bring along a ‘tie-break’ image to be used in the event there being two or more ending with equal scores. This year tie-break images were not necessary as a clear winner emerged. With a combined score of 54, from his three entries, Tony Scialo was declared the winner. Congratulations to Tony who has now managed to win the competition for the second time in a row. Tony was the only entrant to score a maximum twenty points on the night, for his image entitled ‘Beach Huts’.

Club President, Andrew Ridley, with a total of fifty-two points was placed second in the competition. There was a tie for third spot with Marion Rapier and Hatim Bharmal each scoring a total of fifty points. Hatim also picked up the only score of 19 points on the night with his shot entitled ‘Garden Spider’ (the lead image on this post).

At the conclusion of the evening, Chris Palmer said how he had enjoyed judging the entries. He also commented that for a relatively small club Edmonton’s members were clearly capable of producing very high-quality images in a wide range of genres.
